Winners SXSW Excellence in Title Design Awards 2012
  • comments

This article updates our previous story about the nominees for the SXSW 2012 Excellence in Title Design Awards.

The quality of the title designs nominated for the SXSW Film Title Design Award was very high this year. Twenty Nominees were announced, two more than last year.

Factoids
Four prominent studios, weareflink, Elastic, Prologue and Imaginary Forces are nominated for two main titles. Also noteworthy is the fact that two unofficial title sequences were nominated. James Curran's unofficial main title for The Adventures of TinTin, and Jurjen Vesteeg's A History Of The Title Sequence - a main title for a fictional documentary about title design. Although the award is officially a Film Title Design Award, no less than six TV title designs were nominated in 2012, which suggests that it's time to omit the "Film" part and just focus on great Title Design in general. We would have loved to see one or two strong event titles among those nominees.

For an inside perspective read Art of the Title's juror Ian Albinson's SXSW 2012 Wrap Up. Michelle Higa reports on the panel discussion that opened the SXSW Film Title Design Awards program in her article for Motionographer.
