The Dreamers
designer: Richard Morrison • comment
This title sequence was built around a continuous vertical camera pan across the Eiffel Tower. You never get to see the actual shape of the tower, but the iconic monument can be easily identified by its characteristic cast iron structure.
Title designer Richard Morrisson succeeded in avoiding the usual cliché images of Paris. He shot in black-and-white, highlighting parts of it and to accentuate the tower's graphic qualities. The type face and the overall color scheme of the opener refer to the film's time setting. It's quite obvious that the main inspiration for this title comes from the film title designs by Saul Bass and his contemporaries. However, the result is something equally original and timeless.
