Pistol Opera is an experimental excersize in style and a testament of Seijun Suzuki’s incomparable cinematic language. The title sequence looks almost retro. We’ve seen these visual effects before in classic film intros. Think of the sensual, layered, psychedelic images of the James Bond title sequences by James Binder from the 1960s and 1970s, or compare it with the repetitive images of Iginio Lardani’s best title works.
Pistol Opera’s title sequence was made with opticals and traditional camera animation. The film was shot in 1.33:1 aspect ratio.
